Vizag, India

2015 challenge

The location of the port city of Vizag, India on the southeast coast of the Bay of Bengal makes it a hub of economic activity but also puts it at risk of cyclones and floods. In 2014, the city was devastated by the impact of cyclone Hudhud, the most destructive storm to ever hit India. Narasimhan Yuvaraj, Collector and District Magistrate of Vizag, asked IBM to help review the city's emergency management system and develop a plan for better communication and coordination between city and regional organizations in future emergencies.
